To make things easier, I assume that you already know a little bit about Pinterest and how it works. So, I won’t answer these basic questions here.

However, in case you need some more clarification, I will answer every question in one sentence. But you can always go back to Create and Go and learn everything you need to know about Pinterest Basics more thoroughly.

What is Pinterest?

Pinterest is a visual search engine, not a social network!

How can I set up a Pinterest Account?

Head over to pinterest.com and hit the „Sign Up“ Button.

How can I set up a Business Account on Pinterest + What are the benefits?

You’ll get access to Pinterest Business Analytics to see, how well each pin performs and who your target audience is. You can select it in the set-up or change your Personal Account to a Business Account in the Settings section.

What are Pinterest Boards?

Pinterest Boards are themed boards, where you can organize all of your pins by topic. You can follow people or just selected boards.

What are Pins?

Pins are the images shared on Pinterest. Every pin is linked to a website, to which you can click through.

7 Reasons Why Every Blogger Should Be Using Pinterest

  • It’s a search engine with a much smaller competition than Google.
  • Pinterest users have a higher average-income compared to other social platforms.
  • If a Pin goes viral, it can produce tons of traffic for years to come.
  • People visit Pinterest with a buying intent.
  • It’s a free marketing tool.
  • You can schedule all pinning and automate 100% of your Pinterest activity.
  • Since Pinterest doesn’t work like other just SEO-based search engines, many marketers don’t get it and give up early.

4. Create Some Pinterest Boards

  1. Decide on 5-10 sub-niches of your Business.
  2. Create a Board for each sub-niche. Keep the name plane and simple – include your main keywords.
  3. For each board, write a keyword-dense description. Don’t just list keywords, however. Write real sentences.
  4. Save 10-20 Pins to each board. Only save pins, that will interest your readers and that are visually appealing. Also make sure, that the connected URL isn’t spam.
  5. BONUS: Use Canva, Stencil or whatever to create Board Covers. This will give your profile a more cohesive look. The ideal dimensions are 500 x 500 px. However, you might need to experiment a little until everything looks great on desktop and mobile.

5. Start following people or brands in your niche.

  1. Search for your main keywords.
  2. Visit the profiles of the people, who pop up first.
  3. Check, if all of their boards are related to their main topic.
  4. If the topics are all on-topic, follow the person, if not, only follow the boards, that fit.

6. Create Pinterest Pins

  1. Open up the graphic design software of your choice, such as Stencil or Canva.
  2. Start a new project with a 2:3 aspect ratio, i.e. 600px x 900px or 1000px x 1500px
  3. Choose a great image as a background.
  4. Add some text: You can use just the headline of your post. Always make clear, which benefit you offer your reader. Also consider including a Call to Action to make people click through.
  5. Add your logo to each pin, so that no one can steal them.
  6. Repeat. Create at least 2-3 pins per blog post. Pinterest loves new pins, so the more you can create, the better.

7. Find the Right Keywords to Optimize your Pins. (Don’t worry. This is way easier than Google SEO.)

  1. Open the search bar on your Pinterest Home Feed.
  2. Type in your main keyword – what your current blog post or your blog is all about.
  3. Check out all the popular related keywords.
  4. If you think something fits particularly well, click on the keyword and do another search with this.
  5. Take note of all the related popular keywords and include them as much as you can in your profile description, your pin descriptions, your pin titles, your board descriptions etc.

8. Use Tailwind to automate your pinning.

  1. Click the link to head over to Tailwind and get a free month on me. 🙂
  2. Sign up to Tailwind for Pinterest.
  3. Choose your location or the location of your target audience, if it’s different from your own. (I.e. I live in Germany, but since I blog in English, my target audience is in the U.S. and my chosen location is NYC.)
  4. Upload the Pins you created.
  5. Write keyword-dense descriptions for each of them. You can also add some hashtags, but don’t do more than 7 per pin.
  6. Enter the link of the related blog post. Whenever someone clicks on your Pin, they go directly to the URL you inserted.
  7. Decide, which boards your pins should go to and enter them.
  8. Click schedule. The algorithm automatically determines the best times to post your pins for maximum engagement.
  9. Create more Pins.

9. Find Group Boards to Join + Expand Your Reach

  1. Once again, search for your main keywords, your niche and your sub-niches.
  2. Don’t just hit enter. Instead click on „All boards named „make money online“. (See the picture below.)

03. Go through the List of Boards and Click on all of the Group Boards. Group Boards have a circle with multiple profile pictures in the bottom-left corner – „normal“ Boards don’t have that.

  1. Read the description of each Group Board carefully. The description will tell you, if they accept new contributors, which rules you need to follow on the board and how you can apply.
  2. If everything looks great, apply for the group board and wait patiently.
  3. Don’t be upset, if you don’t get a reply. A nice, well-written message can help, but you’ll still have to contact about 10 people to get one invite. That’s completely normal.
  4. Whenever you get accepted to a board, re-pin some of your Pins to the board, while obeying the board rules.
  5. Go back to Tailwind and schedule more pins to your new group boards. Spread them out, so you don’t spam a single board.
  6. Rinse and repeat.

Thew. That’s It.
